SpeedFactory Racing Titanium VTEC Eliminator Pin Kit for Honda B Series

These pin kits are designed to be used in drag race applications where the engine is operated at high RPM with limited idle/low rpm use, not in a street car. These have been used in both the Competition Clutch Outlaw Civic and Vibrant Performance SFWD Civic for years.

-8 Pins for locking VTEC on B Series VTEC engines
-Lightweight Titanium, 37% lighter than stock pins (7.6g per rocker assembly)
-VTEC solenoid can be left in place, or a block off plate can be utilized
-LMA's can be left in place or be removed

Gain these advantages:

  • Reduced weight in the valve train which helps maintain proper valve motion and reduce the chances of valve float with extreme high RPM use.
  • Eliminate the chances of having a wiring or VTEC solenoid related issue that can cause the engine to drop out of VTEC during a run.
  • Eliminating the VTEC system function actually increases oil pressure to the engine’s bottom end and camshaft spray bars.

SpeedFactory VTEC Eliminator Pin Kit Installation Notes

Please take care to follow these installation notes – using these guidelines, we have successfully used these locking pin kits for years in our own race cars without issue.

Camshaft Lobe & Rocker Pad Condition:

Make sure these items are in good condition - smooth with no signs of scuffing, scoring, or pitting. If any of these conditions exist you will experience accelerated wear!

Engine Oil:
Running aftermarket camshafts and valve springs with high valve seat pressure and oil that does not have high levels of high-pressure additives such as ZDDP (we recommend an oil with 1200+ppm such as Torco SR-1r, SR-5r, or TR-1r) can wipe out the camshaft lobes and rocker pads. This is not specific to locking VTEC, it happens with normal VTEC system operation as well. We have had good results from 85-100lbs seat pressure on our race cars. Going much higher than that will cause accelerated wear.

Valve Lash:
B & H series - Lash measured at the VTEC lobe needs to be set to 0.006” Intake and 0.008” Exhaust minimum. You can also measure at the valve tip as below.
K,F,D series - Lash measured at the valve tip needs to be set to 0.010” Intake and 0.012” Exhaust minimum.
This is critical! Running tighter lash than this WILL result in premature camshaft lobe and rocker pad wear!

Lost Motion Assemblies (LMAs) & VTEC Solenoid:
LMAs can either be left in place or removed; we have run it both ways successfully. That being said, leaving them in place allows them to act as a “helper” spring, but keeps the rocker pads up against the camshaft’s base circle. Removing the LMAs ensures that the oil film does not get wiped from the base circle which helps alleviate any possible wear issues, so we recommend removing them.

If the VTEC solenoid is installed but not activated it does nothing; functioning the same as an aftermarket VTEC block off plate. You can use either.

Note: When running a locked VTEC, single, or dual lobe setup we recommend welding shut the now un-used cam lobe oiling holes in the spray bars and enlarging the ones that you are using to .078” with a 5/64” drill bit. This will provide increased lubrication and cooling to the cam lobes and rocker pads that are being used, resulting in significantly reduced wear and increased longevity of these high wear components.

Excellent Tool For Drilling Shelf Pin Holes
I had a project where I was extending the depth of the bottom half of a bookcase I had made out of pre-drilled MDF from Home Depot. The original bookcase was 11" deep x 10' high. The extended depth of the bottom is to be used to hold audio gear and needed to be 18" depth, front to rear. I was able to increase the depth but had to insert additional panels on the left and right so that shelf pins could be installed. I needed a shelf pin jig to do that, and this jig was perfect for the job. After completing my holes and mounting some shelves I was pleased that the alignment with the inner portion of the shelf was perfect and the distance between holes lined up exactly as with the original panels from Home Depot. The jig is high quality fabricated aluminum, not plastic, and it comes with two drill bits, and stop and Allen wrench, including an instruction manual, all in an attractive plastic case. The jig is well worth the modest price and I would definitely recommend it for drilling shelf clip holes.

a solid choice
I realized I don't need to drill 5mm holes, so this item is just perfect. It's higher quality than those other cheap-chinese noname jigs. In particular: * The stop collar provided actually fits the drill bit. I had one from Tanyo that had too-big collars that didn't stay put. * The fence pins are very soilid, so the jig doesn't move while in place. Other brands have a long knurled screw that wobbles and allows the kiig to move around. * The plate is thick, making it feel sturdy. * It's phyically smaller than the others, because it doesn't have any useless features like euro-hinge hole guides. The case is more compact and stores well. Overall, very satisfied with this jig.

very nice tool
likes, all aluminum construction, seems very accurate and uses more sturdy 1/4 inch shelf pins instead of the 5mm ones comes with 2 bits which is a huge plus the competition makes you buy the 1/4 drill and only is set up for 5mm to start. this jig will work along side, for now, my other jig dislike is the fact it only has 1/4 pin capability not a deal killer in any way, and it has "pins" to support the jig on the edge again this is both an advantage and disadvantage as you can change the depth of where the pins are located BUT if you are making something smaller the jig may not calibrate consistently. on another positive you can replace the bits easily and commonly as they are not proprietary and simply standard 1/4 inch bits this will be a fine addition to my other goingmake tools and future ones
