The 1999 vintage in Champagne is one of expressive charm and underlying strength an exceptional year that lent itself to producing wines with both depth and longevity. This Special Club 1999 from Grongnet is a refined reflection of that year’s character. Noble and poised, it captures the generous warmth and well-defined structure that marked the vintage.
Its bouquet is elegant yet still evolving, hinting at further complexity to come. On the palate, a velvety texture gives way to a graceful richness, balanced by a discreet freshness. The wine exhibits both youthful energy and mature depth, showing a commanding presence without overpowering the senses. There is undeniable promise here, but also immense pleasure in drinking it now.
The blend is thoughtfully composed: 18% Chardonnay and 12% Pinot Noir underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, contributing roundness and structure, while 27% Chardonnay and 43% Pinot Noir fermented in stainless steel preserve tension and clarity. This dual approach enhances both its layered expression and its aging potential, a true testament to the 1999 vintage in Champagne.
What is Special Club?
Special Club Champagne, also known as the Club de Trésors or Club of Treasures, represents the best classification for grower Champagnes. This club was established back in 1971 as the Club de Viticulteurs Champenois with the purpose of evaluating and recognizing exceptional quality among specific Champagne growers. The small producers worked together to produce a specially made glass bottle for their best vintages. And they only choose their best vintages to be put in Special Club bottles.
